the story of the polar mouseThe story of the Polar Mouse is a long, yet simple one. Once upon a time, many years ago (don't most good stories start out this way?), for some odd reason I bought two polar bear small plush toys from the McDonalds Happy Meal National Wildlife Federation promotion. As I gazed upon one of these toys I began to think to myself, "Hmmm...Looks more like a rabbit than a polar bear." I began to have grand plans of turning this most wonderous creature into a rabbit. I would lengthen its ears, create a squat fluffy tail, in short, if I remember correctly, I was desperately trying to put off some task at hand (probably homework) and this was the best idea I could come up with that didn't involve actual work, such as cleaning the kitchen. In a fervor that can only be born of partial inspiration , partial boredom, I began working on my rabbit. I snipped its black nose and embroidered a cute pink one. Whiskers were sewn in. A mouth added. Then, I stopped. What the heck was I thinking? There was no way would I be able to turn out a crediable rabbit without a lot more work than even cleaning the kitchen! Then, I looked at my progress thus far. "Not a rabbit...Not a mouse...Not a polar bear any more but something such as...a Polar Mouse!" Thus, the Polar Mouse we all know and love sprung forth from the dream of a rabbit. The Polar Mouse then set up residence about my computer, hanging about, keeping me company during the times I was mucking about on it. It's a very friendly Polar Mouse and had a tendency of saying "Hello." whenever anyone passed near his station by the computer. Eventually, on night as I was updating my .signature file, I decied to change it to: My Polar Mouse says, "Hello." This has pretty much been my standard .signature file for quite sometime now and many people over the years have been quite impressed with the Story of the Polar Mouse (Hello). So when I decided I wanted a domain name, my ever-present Polar Mouse informed me that I should really try polarmouse.com, as he felt it would lend a quiet dignity to the site. I told him that if it were not taken, I would take his suggestion under consideration and lo! It was not. So here I sit, with my Polar Mouse (who is quiety gloating, he quites like the glamour of being a dot-com) wondering what the next amazing chapter in The Story of the Polar Mouse will be. - Wendi Hamilton, May 27th 2000 "Story of the Polar Mouse, The," copyright May 2000 by Wendi Hamilton.
